CITY OF PALM DESERT PUBLIC ART PROJECT
REQUEST FOR DESIGN QUALIFICATIONS

FRED WARING CORRIDOR PROJECT

The City of Palm Desert is seeking artists to provide design qualifications for the upcoming Fred Waring Strip Park. The park's Baja Peninsula themed design concept constitutes three major regions including the California Region (plant material), the Desert Region (water thrifty plants) and the Cape Region (tropical). The Fred Waring Corridor is approximately ¾ of a mile or 60ft. in length and will be extended to 115ft. Fred Waring is four lanes, but will be expanded to six with a landscaped median running from San Pablo to Deep Canyon.

The Public Art Program of the City of Palm Desert would like to invite artists (artists led teams) to submit concept designs for the Fred Waring Corridor that address the environmental theme of the Baja Peninsula.

The Redevelopment Agency will review the qualifications and design portfolios of the artists compiling a list of all artists meeting the qualifications. Artists will be given approximately three weeks to submit qualifications. Finalists will be chosen thereafter. The submittal deadline is August 20, 2002. Proposals should be sent to Richard Twedt, Art In Public Places, City of Palm Desert, 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
