Description: A standing family group, in bronze, on a granite base. The miner, to the rear is in helmet, head lamp, singlet, trousers with knee-pads and boots. His barefoot wife stands to his right holding a baby in a shawl. His young pony-tailed daughter stands to his left in a skirt and sandals. His hands rest on their shoulders. The ground beneath them is covered in small lumps of coal. The figures stand on the edge of the NUM Offices' lawn facing Victoria Road; the older Memorial to Yorkshire Miners' Association Officers is some 4 m nearer to Huddersfield Road.
The figures of the man and woman are around 180 cm high, that of the girl is 104 cm in height. The granite base is 62 cm high and 122 cm square.
Inscriptions: On the rear of the plinth:
"Commissioned by the / NUM Yorkshire Area - December 1991 / Sculpted by Graham Ibbeson - 1992"
On the front of the plinth:
"IN MEMORY OF / THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES / IN SUPPORTING THEIR UNION / IN TIMES OF STRUGGLE"
And on the side facing Huddersfield Road:
"THIS MONUMENT WAS UNVEILED ON / WEDNESDAY 28TH JULY 1993 / BY / ARTHUR SCARGILL / PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF MINEWORKERS
