Description: Behind the altar at the east end of the church there is a long carved set of panels on a supporting wallIn the centre panel is the figure of the Crucified Christ with Mary and the Apostle John. To each side are two angels in their own niches. Each angel holds a shield with decorated with emblems of the crucifixion: the robes of Christ; a spear, sponge and nails; scourges; and an unidentified object.

Commission: Work carried out during G.F.Bodley's refurbishment of the church. [see St Paulinus previous piece for details of this] [1]

Comment: The present vicar has moved the altar forwards so that it no longer has its back directly to the reredos, as was originally intended.
