Location: At the Market Street entrances to Hoyland Market. The tiles are on the wall of the public conveniences between to two gates to the Market in Hoyland Town Centre.

Description: A pair of gates and a single gate on Market Street, which give access to the Hoyland Market. There is a decorative tiled border across the front of the public conveniences between the two sets of gates.
The stainless steel gates, beneath a blue painted arch with the word MARKET cut in it, are composed of fragments of circular motifs with strong vertical elements. Some circular fragments contain stylised Yorkshire roses; on the pair of gates these oppose each other; on the single, right hand gate they form a circular central element.
The blue tiled mural is composed of squares of nine tiles decorated with images and lists of items that might be sold in the market. The images come from printed catalogues; the lists are handwritten or printed. These are surrounded by a further row of plain blue tiles with a border of slim indented tiles. There are 2 sets of this pattern, one above another, this design being repeated across the mural; there are 4 repeats at the either end of the building, and 6 sets of tiles between the two doors.

Condition: Surface - Gates: good. Some slight rusting. Tiles: good. Small amount of graffiti and remains of a poster on the surface.
Structural - Good

Inscriptions: On centre of left hand tile panel: Designed and made by Artists / Les Biggs and Lesley Fallais 2000.
