Description: A bronze statue of a soldier standing on top of a tapering limestone column. The whole is on a platform with two small walls (later additions) at its front. The soldier in a cap, short jacket and with his rifle at the ready is moving forwards. A knapsack and other pieces of equipment are slung over his shoulders and strapped to his belt.

Inscriptions: At the top of the column are the words:
"1914 / THE / GREAT / WAR / 1918"
At the base of the column:
"ERECTED / IN GRATEFUL RECOGNITION / OF THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / MADE BY THE ABOVE / NAMED MEN OF / THIS PARISH"
On the first step at the front of the monument:
"LEST WE FORGET"
On the two walls either side of the steps at the front of the monument:
"IN GRATEFUL MEMORY / OF THOSE WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES / 1939-1945"

Commission: not known

Comment: Coronation Park was opened as a park on 22nd June 1911 to commemorate George V's coronation on that day. Photographs of 1935 show a large artillery gun in the Park near the War memorial
