Description: Somewhat abstract shape suggesting a cyclist.

Commission: Installed to commemorate the opening of the local link of the National Cycle Network. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. 50 % funding from the Millennium Commission and 50% from RMBC. total cost £6,000. [1]

Comment: This is no indication of the sculptor on the plaque. An early press cutting showed a computer generated image of how the sculpture might look. This was before a sculptor was chosen. The final piece looks very similar to that in press cutting.

On site plaque: A metal plaque beneath the sculpture states:
'The Millennium Cyclist /
UNVEILED BY THE MAYOR OF ROTHERHAM / COUNCILLOR IAIN ST. JOHN / 21st JUNE 2000 / TO MARK THE OPENING OF THE NATIONAL CYCLE NETWORK / ROUT 605 /
ROTHERHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL / ECONOMIC AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES / THE MILLENNIUM COMMISSION / SUSTRANS '
