Location:
Victoria Quays. (A-Z p5 2H)

Description:
Large sculpture, over 2 metres high, on the north side of the canal basin. The piece depicts a heron with a very large fish hanging from its beak.

Commission:
One of the pieces made during the Stone City Symposium. Financial and other support was given by the Sports and Arts Foundation, Yorkshire and Humberside Arts, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield City Council and Yorkshire Artspace Society. Materials were provided by Realstone.

This piece was sponsored by a number of organisations with interests in the Victoria Quays development: The Monaghan Partnership, Nabarro Nathanson, New City Hotels, The Rushbond Group, Sheffield Development Corporation, Victoria Quays Ltd., and Wislon Bowden Properties.

The piece was made at Victoria Quays between 19th June and 16th July 1995. Surface details were completed in the artist's studio during a week in August. The piece was installed on 31st August 1995.

Artist's Statement: (from the publicity leaflet for Stone City)
"This piece celebrates the natural fauna which will hopefully return to this city centre location."

Publicity: Articles and photographs appeared in the local newspapers.
