Tracey Heyes
Blast Lane Subway, 1996
Under the beginning of Sheffield Parkway.
ceramic tiles

Location:
Under the beginning of Sheffield Parkway. (A-Z p5 2H)

Description:
The walls of the subway are completely tiled. The design shows a number of different fruit. Each tile is 23.5 cm long x 11.5 cm high. The walls are roughly 32m long and 2.2 metres high and are covered in over 5,000 tiles.

Commission:
Sheffield City Council.

Comment:
The subway is not frequented a great deal and is in a relatively inaccessable position. The tiles (September 1999) are covered with a large amount of graffiti and the passage often contains a lot of debris.
