Around the fountain on Fargate

Location:
At the top of Fargate, on boarding surrounding the lower side of the fountain. (A-Z p5 3E)

Description:
Brightly coloured, almost cartoon-based figures on a curving set of boards 2.4 metres high and 19.2 metres long. This is a temporary project - co-inciding with major refurbishemennt of Fargate. The boards hide the rear of the site management office.

Commission:
Sheffield City Council and Shopmobility. The paint was sponsored by Article in The Star, March 10th 1997, describes the work due to commence. The whole refurbishment "..is funded by European Community, Single regeneration Budget, City Council art bodies and private contributions.."

Comment:
This is the first public piece by Brian Jackson. Public response onsite was very positive and the landlord of 'The Brown Bear' commissioned him to paint a mural in the walled garden of the pub, which is accessible from Tudor Square.
