Brett Payne
railings/handrail, 1995 and 1997
Castle Square, S1 (1995) and Angel Street, S1 (1997)
steel, stainless

Location:
Castle Square, S1 (1995) and Angel Street, S1 (1997) (A-Z p5 2/3F)

Description:
Highly polished rounded railings, one and a half metres high. The half circle links between uprights owe a lot in design to Payne’s jewellery.

Commission:
Sheffield City Council. European Regional Development Funding.

Comment:
The railings were felt to be so successful that when the adjoining Angel Street refurbishment took place two years later Payne produced similar designs for this space. Brett Payne’s work can also be seen on these pages with his contribution to the Millennium Canteen.
