PUBLIC ART IN SHEFFIELD

Coralie Turpin
'Protea', 2003
Botanical Gardens
mosaic tesserae

Location:
South Africa room, Pavilions, Botanical Gardens (A-Z p98 4A)

Description:
Mosaic flower, based on a South African protea, shown in bloom on a short stem

Commission:
Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust. Part of the Riddle Trail.

Comment:
As the Pavilions have Listed Building status, the design could not infringe regulations, but it also had to be acceptable to the Friends of the Botanical Gardens and Off the Shelf. In addition, English Heritage insisted on the mosaic being hung by a removable attachment.
