Upperthorpe Peace Garden, Daniel Hill, S6. (A-Z p.86 6C)

Description:
The gate is made of bent and welded wire. This is painted black. The upper section contains the name of the garden. The design of the gate shows a sun with radiating rays and two flower heads.

Commission:
Sheffield Wildlife Trust. Funding from ICI, English Nature, SRB.

Comment:
A plaque onsite gives some details of the garden’s creation:
"UPPERTHORPE PEACE
GARDEN
CREATED 1995 BY
SHEFFIELD WILDLIFE TRUST
WITH LOCAL PEOPLE, ICI, ENGLISH NATURE,
NWICAP PARTNERS IN REGENERATION,
THE GOVERNMENTS CHALLENGE FUND
AND SCC LEISURE SERVICES"
The artist’s name is not mentioned. Publicity for the garden appeared in both The Star and Material World. Also onsite is a mosaic designed and made by pupils of Daniel Hill School
