Sofaer - Serving Spoon and Teaspoon
Serving spoon and teaspoon
each with a 9ct red gold inlay symbolising the rising sun
0f the same basically classic and functional form. There is special interest
in the handle, with an obliquely cut flared end which features a 9ct red
gold inlay representing the rising sun and symbolising the dawn of a new
age. The shape of this rising-sun motif is carried through, up towards the
elliptical bowl, as the cross-section of the handle. The bowl and upper
wall of the handle were forged from a single sheet, with the flat lower
wall soldered in later, resulting in a hollow structure. The elements of
the end of the handle, including the gold inlay, were first turned and then
given a flat edge to represent the horizon.
