About the Public Art Website

'Pigeons' - now stolen

The Curators in collaboration with HADAF staff, have been responsible for building up a research pool of material on Public Art, mainly on original slides, but also consisting of video and audio tapes, text and other artefacts. Much of this material initially covered the city of Sheffield although within the collection we have extensive records covering the Forest of Dean, Grizedale, Margam County Park, Sustrans projects, Sunderland and many other British and European sites of interest. We are now concentrating on publishing this further material via the web.

We have worked for much of this time in collaboration with many of the artists and craftspeople involved in projects and also particularly with Paul Swales, Sheffield's Public Art Officer 1989 - 2000. We are indebted to him for his enthusiastic support and for much of the information on the following pages. The material they contain is primarily intended for use by students at Sheffield Hallam University, but should also be of interest to a general public and will, hopefully, answer many of the general enquiries which Sheffield City Council Officers and the team here are often asked.
