Powell Street Under-crossing of Interstate 80 at the
Powell Street / Emeryville Exit.
Pedestrian walk-ways on either side of Powell Street (from Denny's and Powell Street Plaza (west) and Emeryville Marina (east). Emeryville is located between Berkeley and Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco. Site is wheelchair accessible.

Description: Brightly painted steel figures are lit against a sky blue wall projecting dramatic silhouettes. In the reversal of an arcade game, cars drive through the space while figures appear and re-appear behind columns along the pedestrian walk-way between the Marina and city of Emeryville. Emeryville citizens featured include a policeman with bicycle, a couple referring to their map, a runner with his dog, a father and daughter, and even a cameo appearance by Stanley as - what else? - the artist.



About the artists:
"Nationally recognized Painter M. Louise Stanley, is known for her humorously quirky allegories and spoofs on the human condition. For "Neighborhood Convergence" she has designed 'larger than life' caricatures honoring the citizens of Emeryville. Her work is in the permanent collections of the San Jose Museum of Art, Oakland Museum, Triton Museum of Art. In addition to exhibiting, teaching and lecturing nationally, she leads an annual 'Art Lover's Tour' to Italy for artists and scholars.

"Metal sculptor Vickie Jo Sowell, has created public art for many communities including projects for the cities of Oakland, Dublin, Emeryville, Concord and an upcoming 80 foot fence for the city of Richmond. Her community garden, 'Big Daddy's Rejuvenating Public Garden and Sculpture Park', graces the W. Macarthur exit of Highway 580 E. Sowell has twenty years of studio experience and has taught welding for more than a decade."
