Location: Outside the buildings for retired railway employees and their families at Patrick Stirling Court. Originally located in St Sepulchregate near the railway station, it was moved to St James Bridge and finally to Patrick Stirling Court in 1993 [1]

Description: Pink and gray granite column surmounted by a lamp with Doncaster's Lion at its top. Four drinking basins protrude from the column. Four pink columns decorate the memorial above the basins; between them the gray granite column is inscribed above each of the four basins. The whole stands on a octagonal, sandstone base.

Inscriptions: The inscriptions above each basin read:
"THIS / FOUNTAIN/ WAS / PRESENTED TO / THE TOWN OF / DONCASTER / BY / THE ENGINEMEN / AND FIREMEN / EMPLOYED ON"
"THE / GREAT NORTHERN / RAILWAY, / IN / COMMEMORATION / OF THE 70TH / BIRTHDAY OF / P. STIRLING, ESQ. / C.E. / LOCOMOTIVE"
"ENGINEER / TO THE COMPANY / TO MARK THE / RESPECT / AND ESTEEM / IN WHICH HE IS / HELD BY THEM / JUNE 29TH / 1890"
"OPENED / BY / MRS STIRLING / AUGUST 11TH / J.F.CLARK, ESQ / MAYOR"
There is a recent plaque in the paving beneath the memorial:
"THIS PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED ON 12 MARCH 1993 / BY / THE WORSHIPFUL THE MAYOR OF DONCASTER / COUNCILLOR C.W.VERRILL / TO MARK THE COMPLETION OF / PATRICK STIRLING COURT"
"THIS MEMORIAL WAS REPOSITIONED TO THIS SITE / FROM HEXTHORPE BRIDGE HAVING ORIGINALLY BEEN ERECTED / IN ST SEPULCHRE GATE"
"RAILWAY HOUSING ASSOCIATION AND BENEFIT FUND / DARLINGTON"

Commission: By subscription from railway workers to celebrate the 70th birthday of Patrick Stirling.

Comment: Patrick Stirling was a pioneering engineer in local railways.
