Description: On octagonal plinth (50 cm high) on which stands a tapering, 183 cm high, octagonal column which used to support a street light. A cross is carved at the base of the column, which is also decorated with carving below the broken capitol.
Inscriptions: An inscription all around the base of the column reads:
' In memory of WILLIAM HENRY CROSSLEY who was fatally injured / near this spot on SAINT PAUL'S DAY 1900 '
An further inscription on the base reads:
'ERECTED BY HIS WIDOW AND CHILDREN / "At eventide it shall be light" '
Commission: The widow of the victim commemorated.
Comment: The light and broken pieces of stone from the top of the column were removed because they were no longer safe and are believed to be in store.
