| Location: In a play area, previously waste land, between Aldred Crescent and Calladine Road, Swinton Description: Three separate animals: a tortoise (120 cm x 95 cm x 60 cm), an armadillo with a handbag (85 cm long) and a lizard (1m long). Also 4 mushroom-shaped seating stools sited around a painted concrete meeting circle and snake maze. There is also a footprint trail made from mosaic footprint shapes set in concrete slabs. Commission: The area was not big enough for a proper Play area with the usual equipment so it was decided to create objects/sculptures with which local children could interact . In April 2003 submissions were invited from artists with whom Groundworks had previously worked. Coralie Turpin's was the successful application. The lizard was made by Jason THOMSON. Funding for the regeneration of this area came from two sources £10,000 funding from WREN; £10,000 funding from Objective 1: Swinton Community partnership.
