Description:
A plinth faced in granite on which is a large circular stainless steel circle,
2.5 m in diameter, supported by two feet on either side. Within the circle
is a star of steel inset with eight triangles of bronze; the central circle
is also infilled with bronze. These bronze sections are decorated with images
in relief, those on the rear of the sculpture are obviously the work of
children. The central section on the front of the sculpture contains 2 miner's
helmets, a horse shoe, a brick, the tines of a fork, an anvil, a hand bell
and a vaporiser.
The compass points contain a total of 85 images of people and activities
in Beighton made by local people. Items of note include a horse made by
Ted Singleton, retired ploughman, who used to work the fields on which the
monument now stands.
