PUBLIC ART IN SHEFFIELD

Wendy Taylor
railings, 1993
Sheffield University Management School, Mappin Street
steel, stainless

Location:
Sheffield University Management School, Mappin Street. (A-Z p4 3B)

Description:
The ramp railings at main entrance provide a distinctive feature for the facade of the building.

Commission:
University of Sheffield.

Comment:
Artist says the railings were designed to be specific to the School, hence the use of circular forms, found in the School's former logo. Curiously the logo was out-of-date when the piece was created. "I tried to make them (the railings) look as though they were meant to be there". Colour was not considered because there was already enough bright colour on the buildings in the area.
