Near junction of Hollinsend Road with Ridgeway Road, S12. (A-Z p5 4F)

Description:
Statue of 1st WW Soldier, carrying a rifle. Height of soldier: 3.8m

Inscription:

On the plinth: To the Glory of God/ and in Memory of the Men/ from Gleadless, Hollinsend/ and Intake, who fell in the / Great War, 1914 - 1918/ THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY / PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION.
The names of the dead are inscribed on either side of the plinth.

Commission:
Erected by public subscription. Owned by Sheffield City Council. Listed status: II

Comment:
The gun has been substantially restored, the barrel end looks to be of metal and a bayonet appears to be missing.
