The piece is constructed on a frame of black-painted steel rods embellished with features cut from steel plate. Small birds sit on two trees either side of a centre panel. This is composed of emblems referring to life in Wombwell: cricket, Christianity, glass-making, tennis, Yorkshire Rose, music, steam engine, a canal barge carrying coal, mining, butterfly, a drinking fountain, safety lamp. A round bronze map of the world is in the middle of the central section of this panel.
