Description: A conical form supported on mild steel rods. The sculpture is formed from hands cut from stainless steel plate and arranged slightly overlapping each other.
Inscription: On each of the hands which constitute the sculpture is written a single word. These include: help push shake turn mend poke draw comfort fix carry weapon love hands .
Commission: Doncaster Community Arts (DARTS) was asked to oversee this project. The brief was to use the Sure Start Logo which was in fact hand prints. Local children had produced poems as part of the school-based workshops accompanying this commission. Words used in the poems were selected and etched/sandblasted onto the surface of the work. The sculpture was made by Campbell Designs of Mattersey, nr. Doncaster. The piece was installed in April/May 2002. "It was intended to be our opening sculpture but due to issues surrounding health and safety the sculpture was repositioned to where it stands now." [1]
Dimensions: 94 cm high x 51 cm wide x 51 cm deep
