PUBLIC ART IN SHEFFIELD

Judith Bluck
mural, 1985
Outside the Public Toilets, Moorfoot, S1
press-moulded brick/terracotta tiles

Location:
Outside the Public Toilets, Moorfoot, at the bottom of The Moor, Sheffield S1 (A-Z p.4 5D)

Description:
Depicts the Little Meesters’ workshops that used to stand on this site and the various activities associated with the steel trade.

Commission:
Sheffield City Council. The ‘bricks’ were sponsored by a brick manufacturer.

Comment:
The piece was unveiled on July 27th 1985. It is sited next to Judith Bluck’s other Sheffield piece ‘Crucible’ which was installed in 1979. The two pieces are widely different in conception, but it seems clear that Bluck was asked to make this piece because she had already made 'Crucible' for this site.
