PUBLIC ART IN SHEFFIELD

Judith Bluck
'Crucible', 1979
Moorfoot
plastic

Location:
Outside the Manpower Services Commission Building, Moorfoot. (A-Z p4 6D)

Description:
Large bronze-coloured plastic fountain sculpture. Very much in keeping with the surrounding architectural environment. The artist has referred to it as an exploding crucible.

Commission:
One of several projects by the same artist for the Property Services Agency of the Department of the Environment.
A mural by the same artist, commissioned by Sheffield City Council, is located in the same street.

Comment:
This piece is normally assumed to be bronze, although this is not the case. In winter water sometimes freezes on it in a spectacular icefall.
