‘Blake Street Nature Arch’, 1998

Location:
Entrance to Blake Street Nature Park at the top of Brandeth Road, Upperthorpe, S6. (A-Z p.86 6B)

Description:
2.5 x 2.2 x 0.95 metres. The arch has the appearance of an interwoven arboreal structure, being made from bent and welded steel bar and strips.

Commission:
From ‘Paving the Way’ with funding from the Single Regeneration Budget. Supported by BT in the Community, the European Development Fund and Destination Sheffield. The brief involved working with young people from the Hill Youth Work Base to make a sculptural arch for this site.

Comment:
Officially opened by Lord and Lady Mayoress of Sheffield on 14th July 1998. Other pieces opened the same day were made by Johnny White and Amanda Wray, Ross Gilbertson and Mandy Burton

Publicity:
Local press. A plaque with details of the work has yet to be installed (September 1998)
